PTFE tape supplied as a roll 15 m long, 19 mm wide and 0.1 mm thick, for sealing threaded joints. Wound onto a male thread before assembly, the PTFE fills the small gaps between the threads and helps make the joint tight.

Plumbers, sanitary installers and maintenance teams use it on threaded fittings in water or compressed-air pipework. Hardware shops and plumbing resellers keep it on the shelf as a basic consumable. The 19 mm width covers a good length of thread with each turn.
