Respiratory protection to limit the inhalation of dust, fumes or vapours at exposed workstations. It takes the form of a disposable mask or a reusable respirator with filters or cartridges matched to the pollutant.

It is used in painting, sanding, cutting, welding, handling cement or crop-protection products, and in industrial cleaning. The filter must match the pollutant: a particle filter does not stop gases or vapours. The mask must fit the face and the filter be replaced as the instructions state.
